I believe this was done in late 1986 during my Jr. year in high school. Probably done with a Bic pen during Chemistry or Biology. Might've been early '87. I was trying to think of a creature not normally associated with anything vicious or brutal and then prepend the word "Death" to it. For whatever reason, "Beaver" won out. I did several DeathBeaver drawings that year and gave them away. |

I had jury duty sometime in college a few years after the first drawing. I wasn't really drawing much at all and in fact it wasn't until 2003 that I started drawing consistently again but that's another story.
Anyway, I was bored and waiting to find out whether I'd actually get assigned to a jury or not. I never got on a jury but at least I did another DeathBeaver. This may be the first time I decided that DeathBeaver's enemies were primarily rats. I believe I was going to put a few more rats into the drawing but the day ended and I left DB without any more rats. Or legs for that matter.
I had always known that DB was going to be post-Apocalyptic but hadn't figured out whether everybody was going to have technology or not. So, the rat has his own visor and a gun. I've opted to make the technology much more rare than when I first thought about it. What's also really interesting is that, for whatever reason, the rat appears to be wearing a spiked, Pleather™ bondage jumpsuit. Best not to analyze that probably... |
